Tools and Resources

Today’s post is a little less specific to SLO.

Whenever I travel, I love to stay at B&B’s, but you probably know that already. 🙂 What I’d like to share with you is some websites that I always check when traveling to a destination, whether new or familiar!

  • Wherever you are traveling, visit the local chamber of commerce, whether in person or online. They will have lots of free maps, brochures, and suggestions on how to spend your money, whether you are on a budget or not. A great place to go for possibilities on where to lodge and sample the local fare.
  • If you are a B&B hound like me, try BedandBreakfastdotcom. They have listings all over the world, and it’s a very user-friendly site. If you sign up for their weekly newsletter (and I suggest that you do), they give you an option to pick your favorite/frequently-travel-to areas so they can email you any specials that might be going on. For example, in Paso Robles, there is a fantastic deal right now at The Vine Street Inn. Stay 2 nights (including a Wednesday) and get 2 nights for the price of 1. Total? $110. A definite bargain!
  • Another great website is Hotelsdotcom. I like to use this site to see what hotels are available but generally wind up booking through the hotels themselves unless they are having a major discount on certain places. As always, you can save at least $10 to $20 per night if you book through the accommodation (whether B&B or hotel) itself.
  • Never be afraid to email and/or call around to see about mid-week specials! They might have had a last-minute cancellation and suddenly a room is free just for you. You could get a fabulous deal!

Wherever you go, SLO or otherwise, business or pleasure, research ahead of time is never a bad thing. For me, it’s nice to have a relaxed itinerary and get a sense of the place before I get there. Remember, you don’t need to plan out every hour and it’s fun to discover places as you go along!

  1. Wow, Camille. I love the new design for your website! It’s beautiful!

  2. Thanks, Cindy! 🙂
