Possibilities – Her Castle Homestay Bed and Breakfast

I can’t emphasize how much hubby and I love the town of Cambria. I am doing my very best to explore the region and give you some options, but I always wind up coming back to this charmer! This is another chapter in finding a place for our friends to stay…

Today’s feature is Her Castle Homestay Bed and Breakfast. Hosted and owned by Bill and Eleanor Seavey, this is just a 2 room bed and breakfast. Private, small, romantic, and personal, it is the ideal place to get away from it all! Offering a full breakfast each morning (even boasting that you probably won’t need lunch), they know the area well and can assist you with planning the perfect trip even while on a strict budget. Cambria offers a free-trolley service, and the stop is just one block away. It’s easy to see why Her Castle Homestay earned the prestigious “Best of the Best” award (out of 10 total in the U.S.) based on reviews of previous guests.
“Ours is an absolutely stunning setting overlooking the surrounding hillsides–green in winter and spring, and amber in the summer and fall. Nature abounds nearby, with deer and raccoons visiting often. Dozens of species of birds frequent our decks seeking “handouts,” including brightly plumed woodpeckers, jays and sparrows. Monterey pines, redwoods and cypress grow within our small estate and provide shade cover and a tranquil scene.

Speaking of the estate, we have a virtual botanical garden which you are free to roam within and around–on several levels. Over a dozen species of fruit trees (apple, lime, lemon, grapefruit, orange and plum) grow on our sunny slopes. There is an almost infinite variety of shrubs and flowering plants, as well as desert yucca, cactus and succulents. Potted plants and custom muraling accent the gardens and home. While Her Castle is not grandiose, it is charming and serene, with modern convenience– yes, we have free WiFi.”

One of my favorite aspects of this charming home is the pricing of the rooms. Featuring 2 private luxury suites, each with private decks, private baths, bathrobes & slippers, how could anyone resist such an invitation? Room rates (gasp) are based on double occupancy and are priced out as follows: Queen room – $115/ night (yes, you read that right) and King room – $145/night (can you believe that).

“The King room extends the width of the house, opens to two decks, and has a spacious private bath. The Queen room is more modest. Both rooms have private baths and private entrances.”

Upon arrival, guests are treated to wine (locally produced, of course) and hors d’oeuvres in their room in addition to concierge services. Before breakfast in the early morning, a delicious tray of goodies – coffee/tea, fruit, and pastries – are delivered to your door, often freshly made with ingredients from the local farmer’s market.
With just two rooms and such personalized service, this is a perfect place to stay for a romantic trip for 2 or a group vacation for 4! I hope to visit soon, and I hope that you will too!
