The perfect Anniversary Trip – part 3

The morning of our final day we took one last walk along the boardwalk at Moonstone Beach. Then we hopped in the car and drove 10 miles north to see the Seals at San Simeon. We do this every fall if we are in town because Matt had written a short and a full-length screenplay about Elephant Seals. Plus the weaners (baby seals) are so cute. Really, it was fun to be outside and see these magnificent and beautiful animals. I can’t really say graceful, but watching them hop out to the water to cool off was quite amusing. Then the mid-day sun came out and began the morning bake-off on our backs, so we bid the seals goodbye and started the sad trek back to L.A.

We stopped in the small town of Los Osos to visit a friend of mine that I used to work with, and then stopped by our favorite winery, Kelsey See Canyon. It’s one of the few wineries we have to visit whenever we are in town. We belong to their wine club which meant free tastings, a benefit I love to enjoy. I love each and every one of their wines. Their unique offerings include Apple Chardonnay and Apple Merlot. The staff is kind and knowledgable about their products, and the setting is perfect for a picnic with the peacocks wandering around. The owners, Dick and Dolores Kelsey, are sweet people and the entire ambiance of the grounds reflects their laidback style and their enthusiasm for what they do. After a stop at Solvang for dinner, I realized how sad I was to leave San Luis Obispo county. I always am. Life seems different there. Laid-back and calm, qualities that seem to be missing in L.A. county. I can’t wait to return!
